12/03/07: 

Today we learned about wiki from Mrs. Jansen. After that we started the first assignment for this project, which was to make a timeline of everything we would be doing for everythig (pertaining to  thid project) that we would be doing for the next two weeks. During class the internet was very slow so we couldnt do huge work until we got home. This assignment is a bit difficult because it was hard to plan that far in advance and also because we dont have the entire site planned out, it was hard to go into much detail about what exactly we were doing. But it shouldnt take that long.

 

 

Tonight it is our task to finish the timeline. We dont have much of it done due to the agonizingly slow internet, but I dont think that it will be too difficult. One thing that I have to keep at the back of my brain is the bibliography. I have always been terrible at bibliographies. I need to ask if we can use citation builder. We could copy the citations out of citation builder and paste them on our bibligoraphy wiki page.

ook the time line took me a surprisingly long amount of time. I also had a few problems with the set up of it. I fixed it though and Rita changed the font color to make it look cool, so it's okay. Mrs. Tucker checked our timeline today. We do need to go into more detail. Our we are eager to start the outline of the whole website. We both are very excited about the layout and adding in pictures and videos ect.. But we need to focus on research more than layout at this point

 

 

Tonight we have to do lots of research. Thankfully the internet was much faster today than it was yesterday. We were able to get alot done. We didnt get any research done but we got some detailes straightned out so we have more time to do the research without destractions. Tomorrow nights homework is what I have been most excited about. We get to start the outline of the website! But again, we really need to buckle down with the research.

Today Mrs. Jansen tought us about how to recognize when a website had false information. She also tought us how to tell if it was a good website to get information from. To identify a decent website, it is improtant to see if there is a bibliography (so you can see where they got their information), an auther is posted, and obvously, the information looks correct. If it is an article we should trace it back to the beginning to too make sure it was not made by a bunch of fourth and fifth graders. Mrs. Jansen called this sense of wether it is a good or bad site our "crap dector."

 

Tonight will be my favorite biology HW night because we get to start planning out the layout of the website! We are one step closer to putting it together into something awesome. But I would say that we are still in our research stage. We have to fill out an evaluation form for each free web website we go to. So I definately need to do that as we go along and not at the very end.

 

 

 

Because the stuff for a lab didn't come in today, we had a project work day instead. As far as getting stuff done, we didn't do great, although we did work on the layout a bit.  WE REALLY NEED TO DO RESEARCH. I will try to do some research tonight but I lots of homework. We have to site every free web  picture or research that we get so that will take even more time. I am planning to do TONS this weekend.

 

I wont be able to work tomorrow night because I have to go to my sisters house to babysit after soccer. But saturday will be a huge project work day. I am worried about time, but Rita tells me that I am worring too much and she is most likely correct. I should try to do some research now. I wonder what the point of journaling is...

We had a lab in biology today. I am not able to do any work after school today. But I will try to do some work in study hall. I will try to get some more websites. because we have to do the evaluations and they are so time consuming, I'm not sure that I can do them as I go. But to make sure I get them all I will wright down the URL as I go along.

 

 

I was able to get some biology related work done in study hall. I got one more site during study hall. And I wrote down the URL. I will start the evaluations this weekend. Most likely Sunday.

I accually wasn't able to do much work today. But I did do some research. I am hoping before we turn this in, I can re-do the timeline. I don't like it and it bothers me. Maybe I could do it at the last clean up.

 

Tomorrow I am doing some evaluations. I understand why we have to do them, but that dosnt make them any less annoying. But I suppose it is  good practice for the future. After all, this is a college prep school.

I did a ton of research today. And I did some of the evaluations. It was very annoying. I took a surprisingly long time. It is still somewhat early so after I finish this I might do some more research.

 

Tomorrow we are doing more of the lab we started on Friday. But I will be able to do alot at home. I am hoping to get cought up with the evaluations. They are really starting to bother me, so I should just get them over with. I am starting to feel better about time, but I am still a little worried.

Last night I added a ton of pictures and some videos. I don't know how many of the videos we will keep because some of them are very... odd. So we will most likely get rid of a lot of them. But I was a little bit bored and I was having fun doing it, so oh well. I also put some pictures on the home page and it looks pretty cool.

 

Tonight I am strictly working on research even though I have said that every day for the past three days. But I am going to commit and do 30 minutes of research tonight. I am planning to do the evaluations during study hall, or I might do some more notes. Which ever one i will be doing something having to do with this project. 

 

I ended up doing a ton of research tonight. I got a lot of different free web sites.

 We had the whole class to work just on the website. It was very proactive. We got a TON done. I feel a lot better about time, but there still is that little twang every once and a while. I guess there will be until we turn it in. Thats okay.

 

We really need to work on making it less boring and more inviting. It is true, I am used to assignments  that dont require this much thought, time investment, and energy. This is certainly NOT a bad thing . In fact if the stupid worring would go away i could accually have fun with this assignment. I am constantly reminding myself to work harder, and the fact that it is 200 points, and we don't have much time left and all this stuff that is keeping me from having fun. Hopefully I will grow out of the worry factor soon because it is stressful...

Today we had a lab again so we didnt work at all. But this morning the home page exploded and the links looked rediculus so I re did it. I incerted a table and centered it. So the home page is almose perfect now. There is no soccer practice today so I will have plenty of time. Yay!!

 

Tonight I am going to add another page, and work on the evaluations that I havn't even started. I had an awesome idea for the home page so I guess i am changing it again. Oh well, I guess it will amazing. I keep having great ideas unfortunatly they didnt come until now. I do have plenty of time to incorperate them though.

I made a list of everything that we have to do before we turn it in. Here it is:

• Change pictures in the front page
• On the "What is it" page, add more stuff
• Anatomy- either get rid of it or do the page
• Films- Put some awesome videos up
• Games- contemplate whether or not to get rid of slime volleyball. Change bg color
• Pictures- explain what they are and what is going on
• Species- DO
• Maryhelen's journal- change bg color
• Rita's notes- ADD MORE
• Do bibliography
• Check for misspelled words
• Do evaluations

Seems pretty do- able. We still have 3 days!! I am pretty excited for this thing to be over with... It's fun and all but, I am kind of done. Just wait I will be all excited about it again in 10 minutes...

  Ok so i am completely out of my mind with worry. It is due tomorrow and we are no where near done. I hope Rita is working on the bibliography that is one of the really important things we havnt done. I think that we should work on only the website right now and worry about the other evaluations (accept for the one that is due along with the website of cource) later. Oh my gosh I still have to update my notes... and email them to Rita.

 

I dont think that we procrastinated at all. I think that we are doing the best we can. I hope that that is good enough to get an A. I need to check back on the instructions for this project  to see if there is anything that we missed. I'm sure there is because I can remeber one thing right now. Ok I am going to work, work, work now...

I am pretty confident about the site. It turned out pretty well. This was accually a pretty awesome assignment. I do feel like we should either had more time or no homework in biology during the project. But all the lab reports were due in class so that is a little less that we would have to do at home. I do think that it is fair. I am excited about the rest of the year. Mrs. Tucker has made it obvous that this year in Biology is going to be quite the ride. I am very excited. I mean come on what ninth grader can make a website for a biology project. Sure I have gotten sick of it, but you know, in the end it this project was amazing. Keep them comming Mrs. Tucker!!
