CNN recently featured an news story on the benefits of bifidobacterium, and where you can find it.

Here are the higlights:

 

Bifidobacterium is becoming a widely known natural health supplement as a bacteria that will help you. Often it is called they are called probiotics. It can assist in relieving you of a variety of different symptoms or conditions, including: 

-Allergies

 -Raises the level of "good" cholesterol

-Helps prevent colon cancer by keeping the colon clean and healthy

-Relieves constipation

-Several studies have shown a lowering of high blood pressure

-Helps improve your immune system

 

Where can we find these "good" bacteria? Yogurt is the most commonly known food for easy access to these. However, many commerical yougurts have been pasteruized, a process which takes the bifido out of the food. So what foods are guarunteed to have them?                   

-Unpasteruized yogurt

-Most cottage cheese

-Sour cream

-Foods marked with "Live Active Cultures," such as certain milks and cereals
